Overcoming a depression..

Depression is a type of disorder, more specifically a characteristic mental health disorder which witnesses persistent depressing mood. We face this problem often in life, when we are surrounded by failures. It has never been possible for someone to come out of depression just by insisting on it. This phase is much tougher than your preparation for the competitive examinations. Trust me, the condition of a depressed person cannot be understood by anyone except for the person himself and those who have experienced a similar phase. It's very common to fall in depression , but you must know how to overcome it.

The factors causing the depression plays a major role in deciding its intensity. Might it be a failure , family pressure, or any such circumstance that lead to depression, it must be noted that your brain is under your control. Make it realise its goal. You need to be alert and don't let your brain fall for the cause of depression. Because once you get depressed, it will take you a long time to heal, and you will miss out some of the important things in that course.

Depression is very much different from Sadness or grief. Wondering how? Sadness is not a disorder, it  is completely an emotion. On the other hand , Depression is a disorder, which means a disrupt from the systematic functioning. One should not mix up depression with sadness. In the same way, a disorder must not be confused with a disease. Any physical or functional change from the normal state that impairs the health of  an organism is a disease, whereas any minute change that may or may not hamper the well being if a person is a disorder. So, being sad is not supposedly being depressed. Despite having overlaps between them , they are clearly distinguished.

How does depression affect your personality? It might show both positive and negative traits. It greatly depends on the cause of depression. You might get socially isolated, or you might be a socially active person after suffering a depression. People with low self esteem, who are easily overwhelmed by stress, are more likely to become pessimistic after getting into depression. The most common thinking occurring in their mind is that there is nothing more left in life and they develop suicidal tendencies. Another major symptom of depression is Insomnia. I speak with experience, Insomnia is one of the toughest thing to overcome. I have myself experienced long sleepless nights , and I could definitely relate to all of you out there who are suffering from the same.

There are a number of things people can do to fight depression. Every activity you do must create a positive feeling and lighten up your mood. Avoid alcohol. Avoid medication as far as possible. If it is not leaving you easily,go for Psychotherapy and Electroconvulsive therapy. Cry. As much as you want to. Lean your head on someone's shoulder and cry until you feel relaxed. Choose the people around you wisely. Try doing meditation. Share your problems with the person you trust. One or two persons, and not more than that. If you feel better after all this, try listening music. Keep your brain engaged. Don't let it hover around your thoughts of depression. And after all these , you might not live a perfect life, but you will live a happy life. The most important thing that you need in this phase is the support of your family and your close ones. Then , tell all the psychiatrists to rest in their homes till you find another cause of depression.
